Search engine tips listing. This list is by no means comprehensive, but should serve as a useful starting point.
- Directory listings are very important. Make sure to submit to directories. Make sure your description encompasses what your site is all about.
- Emphasize your keywords throughout your document. Use H1, H2, H3 tages. Use bold and italics. The more emphasis you place on your keywords, the more emphasis the engines will place on them.
- Have patience. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither is a number one search engine ranking. Keep tweaking your pages, making adjustments and improving.
- Search engine information is fluid. What works today may not work tomorrow. Ignore "gurus" and use your own mind.
- Increase your link popularity. With Google in particular this is a huge factor in your rankings. Get as many incoming links as you can.
- Use your keywords in your anchor text.
- Reverse engineer the rankings of your competitors who rank ahead of you. Take a look at their source code. Figure out how they're doing it and then beat them at their own game.
- Always work on making your website better. Regardless of how your site ranks in search engines, it's your visitors who really count.
